York – the setting for our first date so occasionally on an anniversary we head up north and for our last trip we booked the Grays Court as the perfect mid-week indulgent treat.

The hotel and the grounds are beautiful and in the most perfect location.

The Low Down

The reception rooms, bar and breakfast room are wonderful with the perfect mix of furnishing and decor.

Our rooms – Elizabeth Gray – was really pretty – beautiful and light – but quite small in comparison to the website imagery and the bathroom only had a shower as part of the bath – a handheld retractable shower head – and the room looked a little unloved in places but the bed was beyond comfortable and soft furnishings were lovely.

The breakfast was a real highlight and the room where it is served is just beautiful.

The waiting staff were great and the bar man in the bar on the first floor was really entertaining and the drinks – cocktails! – were fabulous.
